Hitting the Books

Image found here.
Today I'm off studying for midterms! This means I'm living in a corner of the communal study lounge listening to movie scores whilst wearing sweats. So, no outfit post today!

Vintage Sparkles

Sweater: Thrifted; Pants/Necklace: F21; Shoes: Steve Madden; Bag: Vintage
Let's take a moment of silence to recognize the beauty that is this vintage purse I bought at a flea market. It's gorgeous, right? Normally sparkly bags can look cheap or gaudy, but this one is perfect. It even fits my camera! It also spruces up an edgier-feeling outfit like this. Swipe on some red lipstick and shablam! Chic, glam, and ready to go.

The Gods of Shopping Shine Upon Me

Pink High/Low Slip; Grey Knee-High Socks; Burgundy Cigarette Pants; Polka Dot Scalloped Shorts
Instead of an outfit post (again) I wanted to show you all the new items I bought yesterday! Urban Outfitters was having a sale so I (of course) pounced on these items and the total came out to be $60! The original price was $169. I thank you, gods of shopping! My shipment will be coming on Monday or Tuesday and you can expect a few excited rants and raves about each piece. I can't wait!

Starry Night

Instead of an outfit post today, I wanted to show you all my new nails! The edges are a bit sloppy because I have yet to touch them up. They're modeled after Van Gogh's Starry Night painting and though it's not the best, I really like them.

High-Low

Top: Gifted; Vest: Cotton On; Skirt: F21; Shoes: Aldo
This look is very Super-Hero-Meets-Hunter-Gatherer, if I do say so myself. The skirt flows behind me when I walk just like a cape would and between you and me, I walked fast everywhere so that it would look cool. What's the point of having an über flowy skirt if you don't take advantage of it?
I always enjoy shooting these pictures with my lovely friend Lauren, but today was simply a blast. The skirt is wonderful and I have so many pictures on my camera of me playing around with the volume of it (think spinning, jumping, etc). A girl's gotta be able to twirl in a skirt or dress, right? Right.

Forever An Enthusiast

Jacket/Shirt/Jeans/Socks: F21; Boots: Gifted; Necklace: Charlotte Rouse
Though my hair may resemble Princess Jasmine's, my outfit does not. It was another rainy morning here in Davis and I simply couldn't bring myself to dress like a genie. Something told me I would get hypothermia. So instead of exposing myself to the elements, I spent the day as a walking ad campaign for Forever 21. Almost every piece from this outfit is courtesy of that hallowed store, and who can blame me? If you have ever been lucky enough to go into one of the two or three story Forever's, you know what I mean. It's practically impossible to leave the place without at least one item. Or, in my case, usually three. Sorry I'm not sorry!

A Disney-Do: The Jasmine

Part Two of A Disney-Do has come at last! This is what I like to call "The Jasmine." We all know and love this strong-willed diva and her signature poofy-pony. As this series calls for, I added my own twist to Jasmine's classic look. Not everyone has gorgeous long black hair so if you're like me and are on the average side of things, this look will take you up a notch.
            Here's what you do:

  • Pull hair back into a pony tail and use a comb to slick back the sides.
  • With your fingers, comb through the top and middle of your hair, messing it up a bit and adding volume. If you have bangs (like me) pin them back.
  • Secure your hair with an elastic and then take about 1/2inch thick piece of hair from the bottom of your ponytail and wrap it around the elastic to cover it up. Pin into place.
  • Get three small black/clear elastics. The first section will be bigger than the rest, so secure an elastic around your hair about two-three inches down from the original. The distance varies depending on your hair length.
  • Once secure, pull the hair between the two elastics outwards all around to make a poof. You can make it as messy as you'd like. A teasing brush helps to get a thicker look to it.
  • Repeat the previous two steps with the remaining elastics.
  • Tease the ends of your ponytail slightly.
  • Spray with hairspray.
Et Voila! There you have a lovely Jasmine-esque hair style.

Singing In The Rain

Coat/Jeans: F21; Scarf/Umbrella: Target; Boots: Gifted; Top: Borrowed
Can I just say, I love the rain. There's just something about walking in in the rain with an umbrella and your iPod in and being warm in winter clothes that makes me unbelievably happy. Although I went with a black-on-black theme for today, I really am ecstatic about the weather. I simply adore this scarf from Target (it has a hood!). I also happen to love my rain boots and my bubble umbrella. Who knew serious mud-sloshing boots gifted from my (not-so-fashionable) father could be so chic?
If any of you are in a rainy area, play this the next time you go for a stroll. It makes me feel like I'm walking down a runway-- and then I remember I'm in public.

Parkside Realty

Sweater: Courtesy of my mother's closet; Jeans: F21; Boots: Tara; Scarf: Gifted
Well, I do believe we found our apartment for next year! It is right next to a lovely park and a few of our guy friends will probably be living near us as well. There are huge trees, BBQs, picnic tables, and even a Harry Potter-like room under the stairs! Aside from apartment hunting, yesterday was a full day of classes. I tried out a new braided hairstyle-- one in which I french braid from left to right and wrap the tail around in a bun and pin with bobby pins. Tres chic!
Also, the scarf? Hand-knitted by one of my best friends (and future roommate!). She also knitted me a matching head band that I can't wait to show off. This scarf is literally my new favorite thing. It's just so warm and cozy! I'm thinking I'll have to take up knitting....

Pony-Tails Mean Business

Sweater: Thrifted; Jeans: F21; Vest: Cotton On; Boots/Socks/Gloves: Target; Necklace: Charlotte Rouse
Yesterday was most definitely a day of getting things done. I only had one class (at 8am, kill me now!) so I spent the rest of the day fawning over the softness of my outfit-- cashmere sweater and faux sheepskin vest-- and looking into housing for my sophomore year here in Davis. A few friends and I visited a possible apartment and it is absolutely adorable. I'm already imagining all the decorating possibilities in store for my roommates and myself. I'm thinking floating vases, records on the walls, and blackboard paint. Yes? So needless to say, after a full day of business I needed a rest. Hence the little nap on the concrete blocks outside my dorm room.
Tomorrow be ready to see my new favorite accessory! And a pretty nifty hairstyle, if I do say so myself.

The Outlets

Sweater: borrowed; Necklace: Vintage; Boots: Tara; Pants: F21
Yesterday was MLK day and as such, we had a day with no classes. My friend Nicole and I made a trip to the Vacaville Outlets where I fell in love with the entire China Glaze nail polish collection. I was seriously tempted to buy at least three colors. Alas, I resisted and instead bought two necklaces, a vest, and a top from various places. Tomorrow you'll see the vest and one of the necklaces. Aside from the nail polish, I also lusted over these boots from Aldo. Seriously cute!

Cut-Outs and Cows

Top: DIY; Scarf, Pants: F21; Shoes: Payless; Purse: Borrowed; Jewelry: Vintage
As a Southern California native, I am fully taking advantage of the wonderful weather we're having in Davis. Soon you'll be seeing me in layers of sweaters and coats and scarves, but for now? Shoulder cut-outs it is! This particular shirt I found at Goodwill over the summer and decided to take out the shoulders. Insta-chic!
Also, do take note that there are cows behind me. Lauren and I befriended these guys (we call them Burt and Ernie) and they decided to be models in the background. Cows in a fashion blog? Only in Davis.

Rider Meets Writer

Sweater: Thrifted; Button-up, Jeans, Necklace: F21; Boots: Borrowed
If an equestrian rider and an author had a daughter, this would be her outfit of choice. The peek-a-boo collar and gold necklace lend a sophisticated feel, while my loose braid, jeans, and riding boots give off a laid-back horsewoman vibe. And I am totally okay with that. Mashing two of my favorite past times together? Uhh, yeah!
I must tell you, though...this sweater? One hundred percent cashmere. How much, you might ask? One dollar. This has to be my favorite thrifting find of all, if not for the cloud-like feeling I get when I wear it, then for the absurdly low price.
